No matter what your housing preference, you
can be sure that wherever you locate in the foothills of Nevada
County, your neighbors and the surrounding communities will
share in the commitment to quality family living and preservation
of the beautiful, natural surroundings of Nevada County. Nevada
City and Grass Valley are both historic mining towns that
have been inhabited since the early 1850's. In the 1850’s,
Nevada City grew to become the wealthiest gold mining town
in the west and was the third largest city in California.
The downtown district is listed in the National Register of
Historic Places. Nevada City, with its winding narrow streets,
its lovely restored and original examples of Victorian and
early 20th century architecture, has become a Mecca for artists,
writers and musicians. Visitors can enjoy high quality restaurants,
live theater and music, antique and specialty shops, art galleries
and museums.
Nevada County is one of the most
picturesque locations in America and has long been a place
where people have aspired to live. Located at the gateway
of the Tahoe National Forest, there are numerous recreational
opportunities including hiking, biking, swimming in the pristine
Yuba Rivers, and skiing on the slopes of Donner Summit and
Lake Tahoe. This area offers something for everyone; gardening,
boutique shopping, antiques, car shows, great dinning, street
fairs, fine theatre and high tech businesses.
Residents living in Nevada County can choose
many distinct styles of living. New houses are dotted across
our rolling landscape, as many people build on the rural acreage
of the foothills. Also many rural areas are fast becoming
distinct communities with a strong small town feeling and
identity. Among the trees, rivers, lakes and wildlife, new
residential development communities are forming with modern
conveniences such as well maintained roads, public sewer and
water systems.
Education and the performing arts are important
parts of our community. Members of our community receive inspiration
as well as education from Nevada Union High School, an awarding
winning blue ribbon high school, with the second highest reading
and math scores for the entire state of California. Sierra
College, which is in the top 1% of United States community
colleges in awarding Associate Degrees – 4th in California.
Our local Center for the Arts is one of the only self-supporting
community based performing arts centers in the country. The
Foothill Theatre has both professional and local theater performances
throughout the year.
